-

do you have days when you feel high on life, when your creativity and productivity are on fire and you tick off your to-do list, no problemo? That’s Flow. Then there are those days when everything seems to go wrong as if it’s all conspiring against you. That’s Flow, too. Flow is simply the natural movement of life, however that looks. The key is our responses.

We all love the good kind of Flow, and intuitively know that anxiety and stress shut it out. So what to do when anxiety and stress strike? Timea Kulcsar, founder of the Flow Experience (a year-long personal transformation journey that helps the shift from stress and struggle to tapping into ease and joy), suggests these free, easy and priceless tools.

1Breathe We take short, shallow breaths when we feel stressed, which exacerbates the panic. A super effective and easy trick: take 10 long, deep breaths all the way down into your stomach. You’ll soon calm way down.

2Use Okness statements Sometimes things just don’t go our way and we get stuck in negativity. To shift from ‘this sucks’ to ease, repeat this to yourself: “Even though this situation is not ideal, in this moment, it’s OK and in this moment I’m OK.” An Okness statement will settle an overactive mind and pull you out of the drama.

3Say it out loud Thoughts and words are powerful creators of our reality. Say a task will be hard and it willbe hard. So, next time you face a problem, put your arms in the air and shout, “Let it be easy!” Yes, it’s as easy as that!

4Be here now The point of power is always in the present moment – right now, when you aren’t thinking about the past or worrying about the future. So close your eyes, and breathe in and out three times. Then open your eyes and ask yourself, one sense at a time: what do I see, hear, smell, taste, feel (emotionally or physically)? Repeat the cycle if needed. And don’t worry if you feel a little heavy when you do this exercise: that’s normal and you’ll soon feel lighter.

5Have fun Incorporate as many passions into your day as you can – whatever your situation, there’s always a way to do this. To discover what you love doing, make a list by completing this sentence with as many options as you can imagine: “My soul lights up when I…”

6Get outside Nature is the very best mood enhancer, so walk, hike, feel grass on your bare feet, swim or hug a tree!
