1918 The rst Chanel Couture house opens its doors on 31 Rue Gabon. Women ock to the revolution­ary designer.

1921 Chanel N°5 is born. The rst fragrance to be named after a fashion label, it remains one of the best-selling scents of all time.

1924 The rst Chanel makeup line of lipsticks and face powders launches.

1925 Coco Chanel designs her signature tweed jacket.

1971 At 88, Coco passes away in the Hôtel Ritz Paris where she lived for over 30 years.

1983 Designer Karl Lagerfeld joins the company with incredible effect.

2001 The bestsellin­g Coco Mademoisel­le fragrance comes out.

2002 The Chanel Chance scent is inspired by the quote, “I saw a chance, and seized it.”
