I, Tonya
Based on true events, this bizarre tale stars a brilliant Margot Robbie in the role of competitive figure skater Tonya Harding. Razor-sharp comedy meets tragic consequences in a trail that leads from Tonya’s vitriolic mother, Lavona (Allison Janney), to an Olympic dream with just one obstacle: her arch rival, Nancy Kerrigan (Caitlin Carver). Throw impulsive ex-husband Jeff Gillooly (Sebastian Stan), and his moronic friend and bodyguard Shawn Eckhardt (Paul Walter Hauser) into the mix, and you’ve got one of the most sensational scandals in sport history.
Game Night
Annie (Rachel Mcadams) and Max (Jason Bateman) love their weekly game nights. Or at least they do until Max’s brother, Brooks (Kyle Chandler), is kidnapped. Convinced that his disappearance is just part of the fun, the competitive and clueless sleuths bumble along in the hopes of a win. An average comedy of misunderstandings and mistaken identities.
Colossal
Hardcore drinker Gloria (Anne Hathaway) moves back home after her boyfriend, Tim (Dan Stevens), kicks her out of their NY apartment. But once there, she realises she has a direct link to a Godzilla-type monster wreaking havoc in South Korea. Directed by Spanish director Nacho Vigalondo, it’s easily one of the most original films in ages.
Red Sparrow
We love a good spy thriller and this one is a real goodie. Jennifer Lawrence shines in action-hero mode as the once-destitute Dominika Egorova. Coerced into joining the brutal ‘Sparrow School’, the former ballerina excels in the arts of seduction, assassination and assorted secret business. Then she falls for CIA agent Nate Nash (Joel Edgerton).
