Drive safely in the rain

- Safety tips by masterdrive.co.za.

Avoid those driving too slowly While slowing down in rainy weather is key, some drivers take this to the extreme. Looking ahead by 12 seconds (where visibility permits) will enable you to quickly move around them. If you can’t, patiently maintain a larger following distance.

Watch out for flooding If you come across a section of road where there is fast-flowing water, pull over or turn around. It only takes 15cm of water to lift a car off the tar.

Don’t brake if you’re hydroplaning

Hydroplaning means that your tyres lose traction because of water. Try to steer straight and take your foot off the accelerator.
