THE MATTE EFFECT

Matte lipsticks are bold and long-lasting, but may contain ingredients that dry your lips. “This is because they contain less moisturising wax that keeps your lips moist,” explains Marike Nel, MUD Studio lecturer. To counteract this, add a lip balm first. “To remove, use a cleansing milk, as a regular tissue could dry out your lips further,” she adds. For softness, go for products that have natural plant-based active ingredients.

LIP ART IRL

Smashbox makeup pro Nomfundo Cele offers tips to getting it right.

Use all y our lipsticks

Most women have more than 10 lipsticks but only use one. Lip art allows you to get creative.

Make it wearable

Choose your favourite shades. Earthy colours are eye-catching but subdued, which means you’ll feel comfortable. Then avoid using too much gloss – matte works best. ➻
