The Trend Report 2019/2020 from South Africa’s leading hair-and-beauty salon.

-

we’re excited to introduce South Africa and the rest of the world to our second Trend Report, Candiland. Our last one, guest-edited by Boity Thulo, celebrated and embraced our African heritage by drawing inspiration from our traditional cultures. It combined interesting textures, shapes and materials with unique hairstyles and jewellery. After we’d released our previous Trend Report, we witnessed the movie Wakanda become a box-office hit. Many of the ideas featured in the movie inspired and motivated us to continue to be a leader in trend reporting, hence why we followed the Report with another 2019/2020 edition. Candi-land’s inspired by bold hairstyles from local and global festivals such as Coachella, Rocking the Daisies, Burning Man and Afropunk. As global citizens, we enjoy going to festivals that are funky, playful and loud yet girly. We’re most excited to have our ultimate girlcrush Nadia Nakai guest edit this report as she’s ranked as our numberone hair influencer. Nadia selected a stunning collection of custom-made wigs, which feature beaded braids and colours that represent her vibrant personality when she performs. The Report wouldn’t be complete without the people we admire. Trendsetters in their own right, these stars make it all the more vibrant: Lulama Wolf, Tumi Mohale, Jena Dover, Danni Bowler, Crystal Kasper, Kgosi ‘Krayzi’ Modisane and Stella Nhantumbo.

At Candi&co., we’ve made it our mission to de-racialise, destigmatise and revolutionise hair and beauty. We want to ensure people from all races and cultures have the strength and confidence they need to feel beautiful and confident. This Report provides everyone with an opportunity to celebrate their hair and beauty, in a way that’s authentic to them.
