After this upbeat news, I say goodbye and aim for those faint tracks. The boundary of the Hainaveld is roughly delineated by the A3 tar road, the Kuke veterinary fence and another veterinary fence that runs from Makalamabe­di (next to the Boteti River) south to the CKGR. It’s basically all the land between Maun and the CKGR.

There are some fenced-in farms in this region. The Botswana government encouraged farming so that the Hainaveld could act as a buffer zone to prevent the spread of foot-and-mouth disease from the north to the commercial cattle farms around Ghanzi.
