Go! Drive & Camp

What a cool little guy!

People’s needs change, and the caravan industry adjusts according to this. In the last few years, quite a few smaller fibreglass caravans have seen the light – the Serai Weekender is the latest addition. The Weekender is aimed at couples with a small towing vehicle who want to tow something light that’s easy to set up, says Christo Paulsen, the designer and builder of the Weekender. These vehicles usually only have a double bed, but the Weekender has two single beds (1.9 x 0.7m) built into the sides. The space underneath the beds is your storage space, and the space between the beds is big enough to fit in a mountain bike without having to take it apart. The Weekender doesn’t have side doors but one big back door. At the door is a bar fridge. This caravan doesn’t have a nosecone on the A-frame, but Christo fitted a cupboard in the front of the body that stretches from side to side underneath the beds and that has a door on both sides. It’s big enough to load a gazebo. The body is mounted on a galvanised chassis, and Christo uses a rubber torsion axle that you see on bigger vehicles. The Weekender has 13-inch tyres with steel rims, and on the rear corners there are two corner steadies to steady the caravan when you’ve parked. What is optional? A pop-up roof and double bed.
