COLEMAN INSTANT DOME 5
This is the only tent we tested that uses an external frame. After some initial frustration with the instructions (it’s not that instant), it took us about two minutes to set up. We pushed out the folding “joints” and pulled the extendable legs out to the locking position, and that was all she wrote. An average-sized person can almost stand upright, and even though the manufacturer claims it can sleep five, there’s legitimate space inside for four people. It features a built-in 75 D Taffeta flysheet with a WeatherTec system to keep the water out, and a 1 000D polyethylene ground sheet. With steel and fibreglass used in its construction, it’s also fairly heavy at 6 kg. Dimensions 3 000 x 2 130 x 1 670 mm Price R2 399 at Trappers go! Drive & Camp says You have to extend and click certain legs into place. The frame does the rest.
