4x4/Low range/Diff lock? All of it. It’s also a good idea to remove your running boards to prevent damage. Maximum amount of vehicles allowed A maximum of 15 vehicles in a group. Do I get a map? No, but the trail is clearly marked. Will I scratch my vehicle? It’s a possibilit­y, but if you drive carefully you can avoid it. Should I take a compressor? There is one on the farm, but it’s best to bring your own in case the owner isn’t home when you finish the trail. Can we braai next to the road? Not on the trail but there is a braai at the starting/end point. You can also arrange with the guide to braai in the campsite next to the river. Can I turn around half way? Yes. Is there cellphone reception? For the largest part of the trail there is a signal. THE TRAIL Best time to go? Year-round. After the summer rains the trail is wet though and more challengin­g. Can I take my family? Yes, there is a jungle gym for kids, braais and a bar. For the day or for the weekend? If you live in the vicinity of Patensie or Uitenhage you can come through for the day, otherwise a weekend is better. The trail takes about 3–4 hours. Are there ablution facilities?
