Vehicle manufacturers often provide their own guidelines regarding the weight of heavy vehicles that their products can tow.

Sometimes, this is less than the legal weight limit. If you then tow a heavier trailer or caravan and end up in an accident, the warranty may be declared void, which could cause insurance problems for you.

THE TOW HITCH

The maximum load that the tow hitch is permitted to tow is stamped on its side. Never exceed this weight, even if it seems sturdy enough to tow a freight train. Your family won’t be amused if your caravan overtakes you downhill because the tow hitch snapped.
