TOP CLASS: TRISTAN PROVES WORTH BY SQUASHING OPPONENTS -
Worth ranked first in U16 SA Schools Squash
SELBORNE College pupil Tristan Worth has been ranked first in South African Schools Squash in the U16 division.
Having ranked first in South African Schools Squash since U13 level, Worth was still taken back by his achievement as he is only 15 years old.
“I am still a year young in the U16 division, so I knew it would be tough to try and achieve this. It was a proud moment for me and it really means a lot,” said Worth who started playing squash at the age of five.
Worth plays No1 for Selborne College and No1 for the Old Selbornians men’s first league.
In order to qualify for South African ranking, Worth was required to compete in various tournaments throughout the year, including the Bloemfontein Open in February, SA Schools Closed in March and the Interprovincial tournament held in Bloemfontein during the June and July school holidays.
The 15-year-old placed at each of the tournaments and was unbeaten in the U16 division at both the Bloemfontein Open and interprovincial tournament.
Worth's current ranking should ensure his selection into the National Schools team and allow him to compete internationally.
“There is talk of a tour to Malaysia and Singapore during December 2017 where the SA team will participate in back to back tournaments. It will be a great experience to represent my country and to compete against players from around the world,” said Worth.
Following his father's lead, who represented and captained the SA Schools U19 team, Worth has big plans for his squash career.
“I will keep striving to achieve my full potential and train hard as the competition keeps getting more tough. I would like to try and win the Border closed tournament for the men’s first league as it is a local tournament and would mean a great deal to me.”
