KING TOURNEY SUCCESS

- DESMOND COETZEE

THIS year’s edition of the Carlos Soccer Youth Development Academy (CSYDA) annual Inter-Schools annual football tournament staged at Dale College last weekend delivered top-class football.

The Buffalo City Metropolitan (BCM) sponsored tournament was sttaged in partnership with Dale College, Motion Fitness Gym, Hadithi Holdings and the Sam Scara Mtshamba Foundation.

The one-of-a-kind event creates a platform and opportunity for local boys from all corners of the metro to showcase their talents. There is also the possibility that they may be spotted by the many PSL Academy scouts present.

Thembalabantu Senior Secondary beat Dale College 1-0 in the final of the U17 section and the U13 category saw Bhisho Primary digging deep to overcome a stubborn Tshatshu Primary by the same margin to lift the trophy.

A total of 16 schools, participated in the tournament which was played on a round robin format with the teams ending top of each group advancing to the final.

Bidvest Wits Academy coach Ashley Makhanya identified three boys who have been offered the chance to train for a week with his Wits squad in Gauteng. CSYDA director Eric Mtshamba with former Bafana Bafana star, Sibusiso Zuma, also spotted five boys they would like to sign up for the CSYDA.

Tears of appreciation flowed down the face of an elated Mtshamb for the overwhelming support.

“The 2017 edition of the CSYDA tournament was the best-ever showpiece.”
