VOTE FOR EL’S YOUNG BEAUTY

- MADELEINE CHAPUT

A YOUNG beauty from East London, Indiphile Qhwesha, 11, has been announced as a finalist in the Miss Junior South Africa pageant.

She will be taking part in the final round of the pageant in Pretoria in April.

Indiphile competed in the Miss South Africa Mini Teen category, reaching the final stages of the pageant which qualified her for participation in the Miss Face of South Africa competition.

The competition requires Indiphile to gain as many online votes as possible through voters liking her photo on the Face of South Africa Facebook page or voting via SMS.

“I’m excited and nervous. I love modelling, because it has helped and taught me a lot.”

Along with being a finalist in the Miss Junior South Africa pageant, the Grade 7 pupil was also elected as deputy head girl for this year at Kidd’s Beach Primary School.

“My favourite school subject is history because I like learning why wars started and the sorts of mistakes humans have made in the past. History also helps me to learn more about our past and to treat people equally – no matter your colour.”

Playing almost every sport offered at her school, she is also described as a friendly and helpful young girl who is hoping to make a difference.

As a finalist, she has been given the task of raising funds to purchase packs of sanitary towels for girls in disadvantaged communities around her home town.

She is also required to raise funds for desk bags for these communities in an effort to aid those children who do not have the luxury of a school bag in which to carry their books or are at a school without enough desks.

“I would be happy to win and proud to be an ambassador, especially if I can help more people.”

Those who would like Indiphile to win the Miss Face of South Africa competition, SMS the code MMT09 to 47087. Each SMS costs R2.
