HAVE A HEART FOR CHILDREN WITH CANCER

- MADELEINE CHAPUT

CHOC East London is all set for International Childhood Cancer Day and has urged East London residents to join in on this global initiative and show their support by “Having a Heart for Children with Cancer”.

Known as the “Blue Drive”, this annual campaign will see CHOC calling on schools, businesses and community groups to wear blue with the ICCD badge or heart pin on Thursday, February 15.

CHOC have also requested that schools make decorated hearts to hang up in support of children with cancer.

The day is set to start with the CHOC Cow mascots, and PNA’s Penny mascot will be on site, handing out Early Warning signs flyers at the robots on the corner of Old Transkei Road and Hudson Avenue.

CHOC regional manager, Debbie Kleinenberg, and one of their patients will also be interviewed on Link FM on February 15 in an effort to create increased awareness of childhood cancer.

Children, moms and staff members at the East London CHOC ward will receive blue cupcakes and they will be receiving a visit from Stirling Primary pupils who will be decorating the ward with handmade hearts.

This week the CHOC EL staff will be at Hemingways Mall, where the public can show their support by buying CHOC merchandise such as badges and heart chocolates for R10 each.

For information, visit the website www.choc.org.za or contact the CHOC EL branch at el@choc.org.za or on 086-111-2109.
