Blacktips head for Double Mouth
THE Border Blacktips seventh and penultimate competition of the season was held on the East Coast Resorts on February 3 with 65 anglers battling it out for their share of the points and prize list.
Member Angler Derek Nicholson Aka “Cracker King” managed to land a Black Musselcracker weighing in at 3.3kg which earned him Top Edible for the day with member Shane Randall second with a kob of 2.8kg.
Heaviest shark went to member Josh Gunton with a Grey Shark of 9.7kg. Junior member Arryn Sangerhaus won top junior with a 1.2kg Blacktail.
A first for the club was the Top Angler of the day on most points in both the Overall Senior and Lady Division, which went to visiting angler Marinda Venter from the Kowie Crackers with an impressive total of 721.9 points becoming the first woman ever to win the day.
A total of 190 released fish were caught with a combined weight of 139.7kg. Cefane Holiday Resort hosted the event. On March 3, the Border Blacktips will be hosting the eighth and final Rock n Surf Angling competition of the season at Double Mouth. Expect some awesome prizes, including cash up-for-grabs. Anyone can enter any RASSPL event so get to Bilimoria tackle stores and Quality baits in the SBDC to buy competition tickets. Tickets for this competition is R150 for visitors, R50 for RASSPL members and under 14s fish free.
The Border Blackstips are strictly a 100% catch- -and-release club – so catches must be released safely.
Early registration for the competition will be with the club secretary, Sharon Miles on March 1 from 2pm at Chelsea Square B&B in Selborne. Alternatively, registration may be done on the morning of the competition at the Double Mouth camping site from 4.30am with team manager, John Frost.

Competition start time is 6am with all scorecards to be handed in by no later than 3pm to scorers at the Double Mouth camp site. The fishing area for this competition is between the Kei River mouth and Black Rock west of Double Mouth. There will be no fishing allowed on the cliffs.
