BREIDBACH SANCO BRANCH NAMED THE BEST

- DESMOND COETZEE

THE Breidbach branch of the South African National Civic Organisation (Sanco) was named as “the best and most active” in the province, in East London over the weekend.

This statement was made by re-elected Sanco provincial chairman Dr Zukile Luyenge, during his closing remarks at the fifth Eastern Cape provincial conference, held at the Orient Theatre.

The two-day conference hosted by Buffalo City Metro (BCM) was attended by more than 600 voting delegates from OR Tambo (ORT), Alfred Nzo, Sarah Baartman, Amathole, Nelson Mandela Bay (NMB), Chris Hani and Joe Gqabi Districts.

Mpumalanga provincial legislature and Sanco National Executive Committee member SPD Skhosana conducted the election process, which saw Luyenge (OR Tambo) re-elected as the chairman, with Zandile Garane of Alfred Nzo his deputy, Dan Bolman (BCM) as secretary, Sindiswa Norongo (NMB) as deputy secretary, Isaac Plaatjies (BCM) as treasurer and Nomvume Ibitoye (ORT) as organiser for a four-year term.

“I’m happy to see my wish come true to see that you have voted for an equal number in gender as your leaders, with three males and three females,” Skhosana said.

Luyenge said a celebration would be held on March 31, at which districts, branches and individual members would be rewarded for their efforts.

“I can already informally announce that OR Tambo is the best performing region after they have opened a total of 17 branches in a period of two weeks,” Luyenge said.

“The best-performing and most active branch in the province is no other than the Breidbach branch in King William’s Town, which comes from a minority community but has stood the test of time since they were launched last year.”
