THE Eastern Cape Super 12 rugby tournament resumed last week Saturday after a semifinal match between Swallows Rugby Football Club (RFC) and Gardens RFC was postponed the previous week due to unavailability of a suitable venue.

On Saturday, the two teams locked horns at the Buffalo City Municipality (BCM) Stadium, with Swallows winning the game with an astounding 34-10 victory. Swallows coach, Yongama Mkaza, said the Mdantsane community and the rest of East London supporters were excited to witness such a great victory.

The team qualified for this weekend’s final against Port Elizabeth-based Harlequins RFC.

“To see the stadium packed was overwhelming, but it was an honour, as we were making the city proud. We always prepare ourselves, regardless of who we are playing with,” Mkaza said.

He said: “During this whole tournament, I have told my players to always change their attitude, they must put in the hard work, and make sure they play a clean game.”

Mkaza said final matches tend to be very tricky as nobody knows how the match will turn out.

The Super 12 comes to an end after the final which will be played at the BCM Stadium on Saturday.

Harlequins won their semi final match against Parks on March 3 at Londt Park Stadium in Port Elizabeth.
