Choc cycle ride to raise funds

Youngsters to saddle up to raise funds for NGO

- MADELEINE CHAPUT

CHOC (Childhood Cancer Foundation SA) East London will be hosting a Kids Cycle event along the Gonubie Beach front on Saturday.

Proudly sponsored by Crickley, the event will see children from two to 15 years old cycle a route of varying distances along the beachfront in aid of Choc. The road will be closed by the traffic department in order to ensure a safe ride.

Specific distances for each age category are available. In the past, more than R30 000 has been raised for Choc through this event.

“It all depends on the support that we receive from families,” said Choc Regional manager, Debbie Kleinenberg, who is hoping to reach the same R30 000 mark with this year’s event.

As a non-governmental organisation (NGO), relying solely on the donations and support of the public, events such as this one are invaluable to Choc’s success.

Choc runs various programmes in support of state and private childhood cancer patients and their families. The bulk of their work is done at the paediatric oncology ward at Frere Hospital.

The funds raised from the Kids Cycle event will go towards the costs of running the two Choc houses in Beacon Bay.

Entry is R100 per cyclist. Upon registration each entrant receives an event T-shirt, medal and cooldrink.

For entry forms please contact Choc on (043) 748-5315 or at el@choc.org.za

Entry forms can also be found and filled in tomorrow from 12-3pm at the Choc house at 54 Edge Road, Beacon Bay.

The event is limited to 500 entries.
