Dale heads for Kearsney rugby fest

DALE College of King William’s Town will be joining East London’s Selborne College in participat­ing in the 11th annual Standard Bank Kearsney Easter Rugby Festival which kicks off in Durban today.

The 12 South African school teams renowned for their rugby pedigrees, will participat­e over three days until Monday.

This year, three Durban teams – Glenwood, Durban High School and Kearsney College – will play against a diverse spread of tough teams from across the country.

These include HTS Middelburg, Welkom Gimnasium, Pretoria Boys High and Hoërskool Noord-Kaap (Kimberley); Dale College, Queen’s College (Komani), Selborne College and Hoërskool Framesby (Port Elizabeth) and HTS Drostdy from Worcester.

The festival provides spectators with solid running rugby and an opportunit­y to witness some of South Africa’s fledgling talent.

Where there is talent, there are also talent scouts, and members of the KZN Rugby Union and Sharks Academy will be on the lookout for future players.

The festival has been hailed as having boosted the depth of talent entering the province’s rugby through The Sharks Academy.

Selborne fixtures: Today at 2.30pm v Durban High School; Saturday at 3.45pm v HTS Middelburg and Monday at 2.30pm v Drosdy High.

Dale fixtures: Today at 1.15pm v Framesby; Saturday at 1.15pm v Glenwood High and Monday at 1.15pm v Durban High.
