Worth shines on court

- MADELEINE CHAPUT

SELBORNE College Grade 10 pupil Tristen Worth has once again done the East London squash fraternity proud after winning the under-16 division of the Bloemfontein Open Squash Tournament for the second consecutive year.

Worth, who started playing squash at the age of five, has had a series of successes throughout his squash career, and has ranked first in South African Schools squash since U13 level.

Worth also plays at No1 for Selborne College and No1 for the Old Selbornians men’s first league.

“It was a great feeling to win this tournament again this year. It shows that all the hard training does pay off,” said Worth.

Competing in the Bloemfontein Open since he was in the U11 age group, Worth still battles in the Bloemfontein heat, yet once again it proved to be no match for the talented player.

“The high temperatures in Bloemfontein make it difficult to keep energised and on top of your game, but I've managed to not let it affect my time on the court.”

With hundreds of competitors from around the country taking part, the Bloemfontein Open Squash Tournament is the biggest national event of the year.

“I enjoy playing squash as it keeps you fit and you have to think about the challenges you face in each match and how to try and beat your opponent. The atmosphere at the tournament is always great and I get to see fellow squash friends from all over the country.”
