Roaring down memory lane
Visit private motorcycle museum during Africa Bike Week
A SPECIAL treat awaits visitors to Africa Bike Week as the Morganville Motorcycle Museum outside Morgan’s Bay opens its doors to visitors.
The private museum, owned by Billy Nel, is home to 650 bikes on display – from the vintage to the modern.
The museum is set to open from April 27 to May 1 between 10am to 4pm and boasts a large collection of antiques, motorcycles and vintage vehicles.
The Convair plane, once used to transport Barbara Streisand and The Rolling Stones, has become a familiar sight to visitors travelling to the picturesque village of Morgan’s Bay.
Nel said in an interview with the GO! & Express this week that he had been building up the collection for the past four years, with Morganville established about a decade ago.
The museum is set on a spacious piece of land which allows an interesting walk through the exhibitions on display.
Two home-built helicopters and three planes are among the attractions, with the public also set to enjoy the sight of buses, historic agricultural equipment and ox-wagons.
Old computers, typewriters, pianos and telephones are set to take visitors along a trip down memory lane.
Nel said the outing was perfect for some family fun, with lots of space for children to run around and enjoy a day in the fresh air.
The entry cost will be R50 per person, with children under the age of 12 entering for free.
If there are enough visitors, a part of the proceeds will be donated to CHOC and the SPCA in East London.

The museum lies on the R349 off the N2 just outside Morgan’s Bay.
