Coining it for Hospice drive

- MADELEINE CHAPUT

SCHOOLS all over East London have taken up the challenge to raise much-needed funds for St Bernard’s Hospice by participating in their Coin and Copper Drive.

A total of 236 five-litre bottles were delivered to participating schools at the beginning of the school term. The collection will continue until June 22.

“Pupils raised an amazing R46 700 last year and with extra schools requesting to take part in this year’s Coin and Copper Drive, we are confident of a bumper collection from the pupils,” said St Bernard’s Hospice resource developer, marketing and events coordinator Marchel Brown.

St Bernard’s Hospice offers an internationally recognised, specialised type of care for those facing life-threatening and life-limiting illnesses.

The kind of care is known as palliative care and addresses the patients’ physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs. This holistic approach works with the patient’s prescribed medication as qualified nurses and caregivers visit patients in the comfort of their own homes.

The money raised from this fundraising initiative goes towards the care and support of St Bernard's Hospice patients suffering with from diseases such as cancer, Parkinson’s disease, motor neuron disease (MND) and drug-resistant TB.
