Golf for Hospice-
THE Rotary club of Arcadia hosted their annual golf day last Friday in aid of St Bernard's Hospice this year.
The event managed to generate R30 000, with 50% of those funds being donated to the non-profit organisation. Rotary Arcadia also awarded St Bernard’s Hospice with R30 000 from their Bailly Family Trust.
The trust was created in an effort to support elderly people in the community through various charities and homes.
The funds awarded to the hospice will be used to cover some of the costs involved with caring for their elderly patients .“The funds raised through this event remains invaluable to our organisation. Our ability to raise funds through large corporate donors due to funding criteria changes is becoming harder and harder annually,” St Bernard's Hospice chief executive Melissa Knox said.
“It is service clubs like Rotary Arcadia that helps to enable us to sustain our services to the East London community,” she said.
Apart from raising much-needed funds for St Bernard’s Hospice, the day was a huge success, seeing 88 players take part and enjoy a full day of golf, as well as a fun prizegiving and raffle draw. Over 14 000 in prizes were donated by various sponsors, including Blue Zoo Hair, Morgan Bay Hotel, Marion Astra Hair Galary, Ruwag Tools, Haga Haga and many more.Other sponsors for the day included Burmeisters, Century 21, Copyworld, Ronnies Motors, Maclears Stationers and many more. “We could not have done this without all of our sponsors and we really appreciate the East London Golf Club for giving us the opportunity to host this golf day,” organiser, Charlie Pascoe said.
“There was a lot of work done before the event and a big thank you goes to Janene Hand as well as all the Rotarians for organising, planning, and selling raffle tickets.”
