INSIDE: SOCCER TEAM CRITICISES MUNICIPALITY
SERVICE delivery protests are prevalent in our country at the moment, the causes of which are attributed to the continued refusal by authorities to act as it regards the plight of their communities.
One such protest occurred last weekend after the kick-off of the Bunkers West Local Football Association League when King Pioneers Football Club and the visiting Inkwenkwezi side had to fight to control the ball in their opening game due to a poor pitch which was not prepared by the Buffalo City Metro.
“It is just unacceptable to play organised football on such a pathetic pitch where you can’t even see the boots of the players due to the tall grass,” the host club’s owner, Chris Chiles said.
According to Chiles, he informed the grounds-keeper way in advance of the game.
“Even yesterday I begged them to cut the grass for our game today but as you can see nothing has been done and this is not on,” Chiles said.
“You cannot play any game plan on this field and also cannot blame your players for not playing to their best because of this bumpy pitch.”
Former Saru player and Ginsberg resident, Tommy Esterhuizen, also criticised the authorities for not doing what they were supposed to.
“They are getting paid by the ratepayers to maintain the field but it clearly shows they are not interested and are less concerned about any injuries which might come as a result of playing on such a pitch,” Esterhuizen said. BCM could not be reached for a comment before going to print.
