Round Table swells coffers of charities
STARTING out with a successful Bed Race Day earlier this year, Gonubie Round Table has been hard at work making an impact in the community.
The Bed Race event managed to see Round Table donate R25 000 in groceries to the East London Child and Youth Care Centre (ELCYC) as well as a R7000 air-conditioner for the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI).
Gonubie Round Table thanked Bigen Africa and Buco Hardware for their help with organising and supporting the Bed Race Day.
The Round Table also organised an Easter egg collection at the Gonubie SPAR where R12000 worth of groceries were collected. Easter eggs worth R1000 were handed over to Sunningnead Old Age Home, with the remaining groceries donated to the ELCYC. Round Table's most recent venture is having assisted with R16 000 worth of renovations for the Gonubie Scouts building.
Already planning a myriad of fundraisers, including the annual Bed Race Day event, Round Table are hoping to gain enough sponsors to embark on a trip to Cape Town for the Red Cross Children's Hospital next year.
“We're planning on riding two jetski's from East London to Cape Town along the coast,” Gonubie Round Table member Dean Starbuck said.
Bookings and entries for next year's Bed Race are already open with Round Table hoping to get more schools involved in 2019.
“We're still looking for beneficiaries for some of the hospital beds collected from this year's Bed Race and we're really hoping to get more schools involved next year,” Starbuck said.
