Catch Projects team scores goal posts

- SIVENATHI GOSA

IQ ACADEMY donated soccer goal posts to the ODF Catch Projects U11 team in Gonubie on Wednesday last week.

Catch Projects’ U11 coach Athenkosi Malawu said: “We are grateful to iQ Academy as it will make a huge difference in our performance.

“Our main challenge [has been] the lack of equipment.

“The U11 league use the small goals which proved challenging to the team when they practised with the large standard posts.

“That’s now a thing of past. They will be able to become familiar with the match specification posts.

“With a little practise, they will be putting more goals past the posts,” Malawu said.

IQ Academy marketing head Ashley Cocks said: “We understand just how important these goal posts are to this team.

“We are proud to be helping the football team get over the goal line.”

He said iQ Academy was a business that helps pupils achieve their dreams.

The donation came about after iQ Academy partnered with Level Ground Training Solutions to get its 165 team members involved in a fun-filled day to explore a new mission of bettering lives through access to relevant education.

“All of these elements of our business are strongly connected to improving the lives of individuals and communities,” he said.

Cocks said it made sense to partner with Catch Projects, an institution that has an undisputed track record of enriching people’s lives for more than the past 20 years.

“Seeing the boys’ reaction was a delight. The posts are giving these boys the tool to create a new soccer horizon for themselves and perhaps in life,” Cocks said.

The 14 boys are part of a more than 200-player football club which was started by Catch, a non-governmental organisation making serious inroads into addressing some of the socio-economic issues facing the Mzamomhle community.

The soccer teams consists of players ranging from the ages of nine to 13. The boys are from the Mzamomhle township in Gonubie.

“The reason for the development of soccer is to prevent the boys from committing crime,” Malawu said.
