IT ALL started with his childhood fantasies of becoming a musician, and Thokozani ‘Te Te’ Sidike has never stopped chasing his dream.

“There was a tavern at home. So I would sing every song that used to play and imitate the artists,” the 28-year-old said.

“I think that’s when I fell in love with music and singing.

“But it was when I entered Clash of the Choirs in 2013 that the dream seemed possible.”

The King William’s Town-born musician went on to enter The Battle of Municipalities Talent Search Competition and managed to come out on top.

“That was a talent search for all Eastern Cape artists and I won.

“Ever since then, I have been focused on getting exposure and telling my story through my music to try inspire others,” he said.

Sidike, who just released his first single, also has his sights set on putting together a full album.

“I can say I have a testimony. I have stories to tell about where I come from and where I’m going.

“I believe someone can take something from these stories and even be motivated,” the Afro-soul artist said.

“My music needs to be played on radio and TV. There are not enough opportunities in our city for local artists.

“Sometimes people will come to me and say, ‘why don’t you go to Johannesburg’ because there are not enough opportunities and resources to support local artists,” he said.

However, Sidike who counts Busi Mhlongo, Vusi Nova, Nathi Mthethwa as some of his biggest influences, says he is determined to make it in his home town.

Sidike’s single is called Nonzwakazi.
