BODY BUILDERS STRUT THEIR STUFF

- AMANDA NANO

THERE were muscles galore in King William's Town as the inaugural House of Legends bodybuilding competition took place at Dale College Boy's Primary School in front of a crowd of excited spectators on Saturday evening.

The bodybuilders flexed themselves for a chance to win R10000 on the night.

Mr Universe Italy winner, multiple International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness (IFBB) bodybuilding champion in South Africa, and Fear Factor SA winner, Shameen Adams, was on the panel of judges for the competition.

“We're looking for the complete overall package of physique, stage presentation, muscle build that's in proportion, and the bottom half of the body needs to balance up with the top half,” said Adams.

The brainchild behind this competition are young entrepreneurs Landile “Milo” Makubalo and Samkelwe “Sammy” Balintulo of Supplement House.

“I'm a sports management graduate so I've always had a passion for all sports. That's why we started this company. We have partnered with Ultimate Sport Nutrition [USN] and the Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture,” Makubalo said.

Balintulo said she “loves fitness” and they aim to grow the sport of bodybuilding.

“I grew up playing all sporting codes that a girl could get involved in, so I’m glad this show was a success,” she said.

Guest poser and 2016 IFBB Arnold Classic heavyweight winner Earl “The Beast” Abrahams flexed muscles and showed off his guns to the excited audience.

Charity beneficiary, St Thomas School for the Deaf just outside King William's Town, received sports equipment such balls, bats and golf clubs. 2018 Nelson Mandela Bay champs overall winner Thembelani “Terra” Dlodlo said the competition looked set to grow even bigger.

“There are a lot of big names within the bodybuilding fraternity that are here, even from out of town. A high standard has been set here and gives interest for the shows to come,” Dlodlo said.
