EL school gets sweet reward from jam firm
IT WAS A day of excitement when local manufacturers Shelford Jams and Juices handed over fully-branded soccer kit to AW Barnes Primary School’s U13 team on Monday in Parkside, East London.
The handover followed after the school won the Shelford Jams and Juices Facebook competition that is aimed at benefitting local schools.
Shelford is one of the longest-running manufacturers in East London.
They use a base of locally sourced pineapples for their products which are sold at leading wholesalers – and most SPAR stores throughout the province.
Shelford CEO Bruce Carloni handed out the kit at the school's morning assembly to two representatives from the team.
“The kit will come in handy because our school has two U13 soccer teams and they must share one set of kit among them,” school principal Geoff Gamiet said.
“There was an overwhelming response, specifically from parents from AW Barnes. The competition on the company Facebook page is part of their Cause Related Marketing (CRM) campaign, designed to benefit local schools,” company spokesperson Lynette Howe said.
Carloni also informed the pupils about what goes into making jam and juice and handed over awards to winners of the rowing competition over the weekend and to the winner of the Mental Maths competition, Joedi Gqodi.
