Chox win five-a-side

- GO REPORTER

FC Chox came up trumps when they won a five-a-side football tournament staged recently by the Breidbach Community Sports Hub, (BCSH) that proved a big hit with spectators and participating teams.

The six teams which took part were: FC Chox, Four Corners, 21 Jump Street, King Spurs, Geraniums, and Triple B.

BCSH chairperson Desmond Coetzee said the aim behind the tournament was to get youth off the streets and encourage them to live a healthy and positive lifestyle.

“BCSH will be [officially] launching next month and, as an executive, we have decided to start with a variety of activities such as the five-a-side football. This will be followed by action netball next weekend as well as seven-a-side rugby, an athletics relay competition, and indigenous games,” Coetzee said.

“The community can be assured that there will be activities to entertain them, and all we need from them is their support in attending these events.”

In the tournament final, FC Chox dug deep to overcome Triple B with a 2-1 victory in the final.

For their efforts, Chox won a trophy, medals and prize money.

“We knew we would emerge the winners but it was not easy. Thank you to the organisers for this initiative,” FC Chox captain, Nejuan Thompson said

BCSH official Tully Winnaar handed over the prizes during the awards ceremony which followed immediately after the final.

“We managed to keep more than a 100 youth committed to sport for seven hours and this is what the Hub is striving for,” Winnaar said.

“We would also like to extend a word of thanks to our stakeholders: the EC department of sport, recreation, arts and culture; Buffalo City Metropolitan; and the generous donations from sponsors.”
