MEC hands over music kit to centres

To support the growth of arts in local communitie­s, department of sport, recreation, arts and culture (DSRAC) MEC Bulelwa Tunyiswa handed over music equipment to community art centres in the region.

The music equipment, valued at R520,000, was purchased as part of a programme supporting community art centres, with funding from the national department of arts and culture.

The programme started at the Gompo Arts Centre in East London and proceeded to Willowvale, Mount Frere as well as Ngqushwa Art Centre

The Gompo Art Centre received contempora­ry music instrument­s ranging from bass speakers, drum kit sets, guitars, power amplifiers, mixing consoles plus accessorie­s while other art centres received traditiona­l music instrument­s, visual arts equipment, and were also trained in visual arts, dance and drama.

DSRAC spokesman Andile Nduna said the hand-over of the equipment formed part of Heritage Month celebratio­ns.

Eastern Cape Provincial Arts & Culture Council (ECPACC) CEO Phumeza Skoti said: “[For this] programme we’re working as one to strengthen the community.

“We received the funding from the department of arts and culture. That is part of the programme, we are very happy about building and the growth of arts in our communitie­s”..
