Jerusalema challenge to rock EL
Venues across city will host groups of dancers
East London residents looking to get their groove on should be ready, because Saturday September 19 will see venues around the city taking part in the Jerusalema Dance Challenge.
As the name suggests, the challenge is based around the hit song Jerusalema by DJ Master KG and featuring vocalist Nomcebo Zikode.
While the single was released in November 2019, it s
’ popularity skyrocketed when it hit streaming services in June.
The dance associated with the song has gone on to become a viral sensation.
On September 19 at 2pm,
“
we plan to rock East London and surrounds with groups performing the dance in multiple venues,” said organiser Sharon Eldridge.
The Old Selbornian club
“
will be the main hub and we are hoping to have at least 30 more venues in and around East London.”
Eldridge said each venue would feature groups of 30 to 40 people, and proper health precautions would be taken. Masks will be worn and
“social distancing will be adhered to,” she said.
Also present at each venue will be instructors who will lead the dancers and show them how the dance works.
The aim of this event is to
“unite East London during these trying times. The emphasis is on fun,” said Eldridge.
