By political appointment…

-

In all the recent Brexit political turmoil in Britain, one character that put in regular appearances in front of the television cameras outside Number 10 Downing Street in London was Larry the cat.

Recruited from the Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, Larry is a brownand-white tabby who was appointed Chief Mousecatcher to the Cabinet Office in 2011 after several rodents were seen scampering about outside the residence of the prime minister.

Larry’s first 100 days in office were not without scrutiny, though. ( This was, after all,a political appointment.– Eds.) When Larry failed to kill any mice, critics suggested that his skills set for the job were questionable. Others said Larry was still working on a tactical plan.

During Prime Minister David Cameron’s last parliamentary session, he produced a photograph of Larry sitting on his lap as evidence that he and the cat were parting on good terms – but Larry was going to stay put at No 10.

In the interim, some compromising video footage has emerged on YouTube showing Larry in a brawl with the cat at No 11, where the Chancellor of the Exchequer (the Minister of Finance) lives.

Nevertheless, Larry is now firmly entrenched in British political life – not bad for a rescue cat! • Visit our Facebook page to watch a video of Larry’s cat fight.
