ANOTHER OPTION This guest farm on the plateau between Klawer and Vanrhynsdorp also has flowers in August and September. Look for kalkoentjies ( Gladiolus alatus), Bulbine sedifolia, chincherinchee ( Ornithogalum pruinosum) and several protea species. The self-catering accommodation is affordable and you can hike four trails that lead to river pools, waterfalls and rock art. There’s also a 4x4 trail. Rates: From R220 per adult; R150 per child under 12. Camping R70 per person. How to get there: Drive the gravel road from Vanrhynsdorp up the Gifberg Pass.
