Pedroskloof Guest Farm, near Kamieskroon

When Berto Archer answers his phone in spring, the first thing he usually hears is: “Does Pedroskloof have flowers yet?” Pedroskloof is in a gorge in the mountainous landscape about 25 km north-west of Kamieskroon and Berto is the sixth generation farmer on the property. During the flower season, the rugged hills are decorated with daisies, vygies and yellow satin flowers ( Grielum humifusum). On average, it’s about 7° C cooler in Kamiesberg than on the coast, which means you can still see flowers in late September when the bloom has passed in the Namaqua National Park. Berto’s wife Sulene runs the Taaibos Farm Restaurant on Pedroskloof (book beforehand 087 095 0523).
