Goegap Nature Reserve, Springbok

Don’t underestim­ate this little reserve about 15 km south-east of Springbok. The accommodat­ion is affordable and after good rains, you can expect a wide variety of flowers and plants. The reserve is home to gemsbok, springbok and zebra so keep your camera ready. Also check out the succulent collection at the Hester Malan Wildflower Garden at the reserve office. There are two self-catering chalets at the reserve gate. Each sleeps six. The campsite is against a ridge: There are seven stands, a group camp (eight basic rooms sharing a communal kitchen) and four basic bush huts, each with four beds. The group camp and bush huts share ablution facilities and you have to bring your own bedding. There’s also a self-catering house called Witsand, which sleeps eight in four rooms with a kitchen and a lapa. It’s only accessible by 4x4. Rates: Self-catering chalet R320 for the first two people, plus R80 per extra person. Camping R90 for the first two people, plus R40 per extra person. Group camp R160 for the first four people, plus R40 per extra person. Bush hut R160 for the first two people, plus R40 per extra person. Witsand R200 for the first two people, plus R60 per extra person. How to get there: Springbok is about 560 km from Cape Town via the N7. From town, take the N14 and turn off towards the airfield.
