MANYANE REST CAMP

-

Manyane is at the main entrance to the park and it’s busier than Bakgatla. The village of Mogwase is about 4 km away: At night the sounds of the bush compete with noise from the local bars. That said, the campsite is in a better state than the one at Bakgatla. Manyane has a restaurant, a swimming pool, a Putt-Putt course and a play area for the kids.

CAMPING There are lots of stands. Grass is a luxury, but most stands have a tree or two. Each stand has a braai drum with a grid; older, dilapidated braais litter the campsite. Some parts of the garden are neglected. The bathrooms and kitchens are dated but mostly clean and there are communal fridges and freezers. Rates: From R200 per stand with no power; R210 with power (max six people per stand). Stands aren’t allocated and you can choose your own.

SAFARI TENTS Each tent has two single beds, a small fridge and a kettle. Outside, there’s a braai area and a table with chairs. Visitors share the bathroom and kitchen facilities with the campers. The tents don’t offer much privacy and your neighbour will probably strike up a conversation at some point – not a good option for a romantic weekend away. Rates: From R920 per night.

CHALETS From the outside, the self-catering chalets at Manyane don’t look like much. The window frames need painting and the grass between the units is taking over. But inside, everything is neat and clean. Each chalet has braai facilities and chairs outside. You won’t miss your stay here when you get back home, but one of these will do for a weekend where you’ll mostly be out and about on game drives. Rates: Twin-sleeper chalet from R1 800 per night; foursleeper from R2 710 for two adults; free for children under 12. Adult rate includes breakfast; breakfast is R65 per child under 12.
