What’s your f-stop?

-

What kind of camera do I need? What will I photograph? Travel editor Toast Coetzer answers all your questions about the go! and Mpafa Travel photography tour in Botswana.

How does it work? The tour is based on our popular Botswana tours, but with one important difference: a photographer from the magazine will travel with you for 11 days, which means you’ll get to ask questions all day long. There will be a few informal “lessons”, during which you’ll get tips to improve your photos. You’ll also receive photography notes and feedback about your pics. What kind of camera do I need? Anything from a point-and-shoot to a D-SLR. Our aim is to teach you how to get the best results using your existing equipment. Every camera has strong points and limitations – yes, even the really expensive ones. You’ll get individual attention so you’ll learn what all the buttons and dials do. Be warned: You’ll be asked what your f-stop is every few minutes… What places will I see? Kubu Island, Boteti River, Mahango Game Reserve, Chobe National Park, Okavango Panhandle, Tsodilo Hills, Bwabwata National Park, Zambezi River, Kasane, Vic Falls and everything in between. Will I be able to relax? Believe me, we’ll have to shake you out of your tent to get you to leave. This tour has been refined over the years to balance long drives with days where you can do absolutely nothing. The tour guide and his team will prepare your meals and pitch and pack up your tent, leaving you lots of time to sit back in your camping chair. Do I need a bakkie? Even though you’ll travel on tar most of the way, it’s better to use a bakkie or SUV with a high ground clearance. Contact Mpafa Travel directly to check if your vehicle will be suitable.
