KNOW BEFORE YOU GO
Facilities: The houseboat has four cabins and can sleep up to eight people. The accommodation is not luxurious, but the houseboat has everything you need. There are two bathrooms, each with a hot shower, toilet and basin. The kitchen has a fridge, a freezer and a four-plate gas stove with an oven. On the deck there’s a living area with a gas braai and a freezer. There are also two cooler boxes for ice and cooldrinks. Staff? The two skippers are also fishing guides and there’s a deckhand who cleans the boat. The crews stay in a separate cabin on the boat. How to get there? Casa da Pesca Lodge is about 180 km north-west of Tete. Approaching Tete from the south, turn left onto the 258 road about 20 km before the city. Drive another 100 km and turn left (GPS: S15.75756 E32.89112) onto a secondary tar road to the village of Nhacapiriri. Just outside Nhacapiriri, turn right (GPS: S15.69485 E32.51402) onto a poor dirt road and drive to Emildo Sada’s property on the banks of the dam. From there, a boat will transport you to Casa da Pesca Lodge about 2 km away (GPS: S15.57874 E32.44896). What kind of vehicle do I need? You can reach the lodge in any vehicle with a high ground clearance. A 4x4 is not essential. Rates: The houseboat costs R3 000 per night (self-catering; fuel included; minimum four nights). If you don’t want to cook your own food, a fullboard option costs R850 per person extra, per day. Fishing boat hire costs R1 500 per day (fuel not included). Fuel in Mozambique is cheaper than in South Africa, but the price fluctuates. During our trip we paid about R14 per litre. Contact: 00 258 84 218 4611 (Emildo); casadapesca.sada330@ gmail.com
