ED’S LETTER

-

There’s a refreshing breeze blowing across our beloved country in early 2018, almost like the Cape Doctor that blows Cape Town’s smog out to sea in summer. A long time ago, British prime minister Harold Wilson declared that a week is a long time in politics. One day you’re king of the Union Buildings, seven days later the wind of change has blown you off your throne. (Yes, I know I’ve mixed up my Harolds in a dreadful way.) Rejuvenation seems to be sprouting everywhere. Even at go! In previous issues, new features like “Take a Hike”, “Birds” and our crossword puzzle made their appearance. We’re taking this one step further in issue #142: Many of our new features have been grouped together in a section called “Parting Shots”, which includes pages with fun facts for kids (p 138 – 139). It’s not just for youngsters – us “older” kids will also learn a lot about the world around us. Our readers are our eyes and ears, and the source of some of our best stories. You get to see and photograph things that we can only dream about. With that in mind, we’ve created a regular feature called “With my own eyes” (p 140), where you can share some of your wildest experiences with the go! audience. Finally, we’ve asked our writers and regular contributors to send us a letter from whichever city, village or lapa they happen to be in at a given time. Check out Lloyd Zandberg’s “Letter from Windhoek” (p 144) this month, which is all about blessings. Yes, we’re thankful too.
