Alombekende bejaarde vermoor
COLESBERG — Seker een van die bekendste inwoners van Gariepdam is vermoedelik Dinsdag te Swaelstraat 10, Gariepdam, vermoor.
Hans Van Biljon was ‘n legende in Colesberg, Gariepdam, Norvalspont en Venterstad.
Sy voortydige dood is met skok, woede en afgryse begroet. Hierdie oudste inwoner van Gariepdam was bekend as die dorp se Goeie Samaritaan.
‘n Facebook-inskrywing deur ‘n voormalige mediese praktisyn, Dr Jotham Joubert, verwoord dit as volg:
”Today, the world has truly become a poorer place. One of, if not the most remarkable man I have known has passed away under very unfortunate circumstances.
Those who were lucky enough to know him, knew he had no equal. Generosity and genuine compassion for other people was at the root of this man’s core. If you were his friend, there was no length that he would not go to for you.
For 12 years now, not once has he forgotten to ring for any of my family’s birthdays or Christmas and give us his best wishes from the other side of the planet. In a sea of billions, one human life may seem insignificant, but this man was something special and if we had more people like him, the world would genuinely be a better place.
If I could have my time over again, I would have appreciated this man so much more than I did. He lived a life truly for other people and not himself.
If ever there was a faultless man to walk the earth, it was him. You will be dearly missed and those who knew you will remember and rejoice that we had the incredible privilege to have our lifes enriched by the blessing that you were.
Rest in peace and thank you for being such a positive force on our desperate planet.”
“Oom Hans” soos hy bekend was, het op 17 April 2017 sy 90ste verjaarsdag gevier. Hy was een van nege kinders van sy ouers Johannes Tobias Albertus van Biljon en Levina Catherina Van Biljon (née Venter).
Beide is onderskeidelik in 1969 en 1963 oorlede. Hy het vir baie jare op Boesmanspoort, in die Venterstad-distrik, geboer voordat hy hom op Gariepdam gevestig het.
Sy broers en susters se name was: Piet, Lettie, Gert, Hetta, Willem, Anna, Isa en Levina Van Biljon.
Van Biljon was egter nooit getroud nie. Hy was ook verlangs familie van die ewe legendariese Jaap Van Biljon (skoenmaker) wat baie jare terug in Murraystraat gewoon het.
Die polisie is tans besig met die ondersoek.
