GRAAFF-REINET — Nicola Beldon, the creator of the Graaff-reinet Calendar, is proud to be able to produce yet another outstanding calendar, representing the town and surrounding areas.

Entries were received from close to 40 people, both residents and visitors to the town.

The judges have chosen four finalists, listed in alphabetical order.

Gawie Basson’s photo of the old façade on the Graaff-reinet Railway Station building is one that caught the judges’ attention for the detailed architectural features of a building that is sadly falling into neglect.

Adele Botha’s atmospheric picture of a broken windmill next to an old cement dam, with the symbolic palm, also represents a typical Karoo scene, enhanced by the beautiful lighting.

The twinkling lights of the town in this early evening shot made it stand out for the judges.

Morné van Jaarsveld’s photograph of an aloe at sunset, taken south of Graaff-reinet in the Conservancy, is the fourth finalist.

What caught the judges’ attention in this entry is the composition, and the enhancing effect of the sun’s flare. The other photographs chosen to be featured full size were taken by Clifford Bel- don, Micaela Brown, Paula Kingwill, Hendrina Meyer, Mandy Roots, Mark Lester Sithole and Kitty Viljoen. There will also be 24 smaller images featuring the work of many other amateur photographers. The winner, as well as the date and places that the Calendar will be available for purchase, will be announced shortly.

Anyone who would like to add their company logo is asked to contact Beldon at Country Mouse. Bulk orders are also available.
