Property crime investigations lead to several arrests

-

ABERDEEN — Several arrests have been made recently for property-related crimes in Aberdeen.

On October 7, a 20-year-old man was arrested inside a house in Grey Street after the burglar alarm was activated. It appears that he gained entry after breaking a window. The case has been postponed until 2nd November for further investigation.

A 55-year-old woman was arrested at a house in Zithulele Street, Thembalisizwe for possession of suspected stolen property. Wooden poles, iron poles, razor wire, old and new fencing wire were found in her possession. The value of the goods is R5 000. The case is still under investigation.

In what would seem to be a related case, three men, two aged 23 years and one 26 years old, were arrested on October 14 for the theft of wooden and iron poles, razor wire, old and new fence wire, which was stolen from Aberdeen chicken farm in Cathcart Street.

The suspects in these two cases will appear in court on October 19 for legal aid.

Two other property-related crimes are still under investigation. Sometime between the August 31 and October 1, 16 Narada batteries to the value of R80 000-00 were stolen from the MTN tower in Lotusville.

This could account for the MTN signal failure last Tuesday when there was a serious power failure from Eskom.

Sometime during the night of October 12, a break-in occurred at a house in Voortrekker Street.

The garage door was forced open, and a printer, tyres, AMA 5 star mag, speakers, bench bar weights and tile cement to the value of R15 000 were stolen.

A 26-year-old local resident was arrested for drunk driving on the R61 between Aberdeen and Beaufort-west.

The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning on October 9. The case has been postponed until December 7 for further investigation.
