U­ni­on High pu­pils re­war­ded at pri­ze-gi­ving

GRAAFF-REINET — U­ni­on High School hos­ted its an­nu­al pri­ze­gi­ving in the school hall on F­ri­day, Oc­to­ber 20.

The guest of ho­nour, Elai­ne S­tan­ley, who gra­ci­ous­ly pre­sen­ted the pri­zes to tho­se being re­cog­ni­sed, was in­tro­du­ced by Mas­ter-of-ce­re­mo­nies, Ro­ry Sul­li­van.

S­tan­ley has two child­ren, Lau­ren and Ross, who ha­ve ma­tri­cu­la­ted at U­ni­on High, and is mar­ried to Ar­land who is C­hair­man of the U­ni­on High School Go­ver­ning Bo­dy.

Ar­land S­tan­ley pre­sen­ted his wel­co­ming speech and re­por­ted on the acti­vi­ties of the Go­ver­ning Bo­dy af­ter which the He­ad­mas­ter, Wil­li­am P­ringle, pre­sen­ted his an­nu­al re­port.

It was a glit­te­ring oc­ca­si­on w­he­re the ma­ny a­chie­vements and tri­ump­hs, and tho­se who sim­ply work hard be­hind the sce­nes, throug­hout the y­e­ar we­re re­cog­ni­sed.

In ad­di­ti­on, a num­ber of Gra­de 12 le­ar­ners who in­tend stu­dying at ter­ti­a­ry in­sti­tu­ti­ons next y­e­ar re­cei­ved burs­a­ries for furt­her stu­dies.

A high­lig­ht of the e­ve­ning was the an­noun­ce­ment of the he­ad pre­fects of the school for 2016.

The en­ti­re U­ni­on com­mu­ni­ty was u­na­ni­mous in their sup­port for Ca­me­ron Muir (He­ad­boy), Re­bec­ca Lang­me­ad (He­ad­gi­rl), Matt Har­pur (De­pu­ty He­ad­boy) and Kel­ly Ro­se-in­nes (De­pu­ty He­ad­gi­rl).

Well do­ne to Kel­sey Min­naar for being a­war­ded the Se­ni­or Victrix Lu­dorum UHS Trop­hy for Athle­ti­cs, the Tal­lies A­gen­cies Su­let­te Da­mons Pri­ze for the Most Out­stan­ding Hoc­key Play­er, the Pie­naar Trop­hy for O­pen Gi­rls’ Dou­bles C­ham­pi­ons (shared with Mi­ce­la Loock), as well as an a­ward for an all-a­round a­chie­vement in S­port - the Mor­ti­mer Flo­a­ting Trop­hy - Se­ni­or Gi­rl , and Ross S­tan­ley for being the Se­ni­or Vic­tor Lu­dorum re­cei­ving The Ra­di­um C­le­a­ners Trop­hy for Athle­ti­cs, the Ce­cil Mur­ray Trop­hy for the Most Out­stan­ding Rug­by Play­er of the se­a­son,an all-a­round a­chie­vement in S­port A­ward - the S­mith-mack Trop­hy for a Se­ni­or Boy and the Way Me­mo­ri­al Burs­a­ry to the boy in Ma­tric, who, by his cha­rac­ter, con­duct spi­ri­ted­ness and qua­li­ties of le­a­ders­hip, has con­tri­bu­ted most to the li­fe of the school - He­ad Boy.

Con­g­ra­tu­la­ti­ons to An­je Oe­lof­sen (Gra­de 12), A­man­da B­rink (Gra­de 11), Yu-pei Rong (Gra­de 10), La­e­ti­tia T­heron (Gra­de 9) and Han­nah Wa­ter­mey­er (Gra­de 8) for fi­nis­hing first in their y­e­ar.

U­ni­on High is proud to an­noun­ce their he­ad pre­fects for 2018. Con­g­ra­tu­la­ti­ons to Matt Har­pur (De­pu­ty He­ad­boy), Ca­me­ron Muir (He­ad­boy), Re­bec­ca Lang­me­ad (He­ad­gi­rl) and Kel­ly Ro­sein­nes (De­pu­ty He­ad­gi­rl). U­ni­on and the school com­mu­ni­ty wish them well in the y­e­ar a­he­ad.
