Nieu-bethesda residents ‘Fix it with Flair’

-

NIEU-BETHESDA – In March, Bethesda residents Jacques Muller and Justin Duckitt entered the “Tuis/home” Magazine’s competition ‘Fix it with flair’.

The competition invited South Africans to send in pictures of their budget savvy DIY home makeovers.

Justin and Jacques were delighted to discover a few months later that they had been selected as one of the top 10 finalists in the country! The top 5 would be decided by a public vote – which, thanks to tremendous support from the local community and friends - they have accomplished!

Jacques and Justin purchased the old Waenhuis from the Retief family and have worked tirelessly at transforming it into a beautiful event venue and restaurant.

But they also needed somewhere to live, so worked their magic on a few old storerooms behind die Waenhuis - creating a charming and character-filled little home for themselves.

The vision of these 2 people has resulted in a most exquisite ‘apartment’ that leads onto a gorgeous courtyard that is shared with die Waenhuis.

Jacques and Justin are truly a powerhouse of skill, creativity and innovation when it comes to renovating.

They tackle any project with passion and flair. The total cost of creating this beautiful home was around R64 000!

Using locally sourced, authentic objects such as old doors and windows, found pieces of wood, functional bits of metal, rocks, and things that most people would have thrown away, this little home, built with love, became a reality.

On Saturday, November 11, the all-expensespaid gala event will take place at the tranquil Le Bac Estate close to the Drakenstein mountains in Paarl. Radio and TV personality Tracey Lange will host the brunch, and Bethesda friends will cross fingers that Jacques and Justin will be announced the deserving winners of this competition!

For Jacques and Justin, just being a part of the winning team means so much more than the prize of more than R35 000 in DIY vouchers.

The publicity that they have received, and contacts in the renovation, styling and interior decoration fields, make them walk away as winners regardless of the results!

Jacques and Justin are extremely grateful to all those who took the time to vote for them and Nieu-bethesda wishes them all the best on the November 11!
