Local artist exhibits in Cradock Street home

-

GRAAFF-REINET — On Friday evening, October 27, over 100 people attended the opening of an exhibition of Janet Kingwill’s paintings, drawings and pastels done over the past year.

The exhibition was held in the beautiful old Cape Dutch house in Cradock Street belonging to fellow artist, Shirley Grindley.

David Langmead, a well-known artist from Nieu Bethesda, opened the exhibition and paid tribute to Kingwill for the discipline and energy shown in her work. He also highlighted the role played by social media in stimulating interest in her work.

Every day throughout the year she posted an image of the painting or drawing done that day. These daily posts were followed by many people who became fascinated by her work and the development of her talent.

This exhibition was held to celebrate the completion of her year’s work.

People who came to the exhibition commented on how much they enjoyed attending a function in a private home and it is hoped that this will not be the last exhibition to be held in this home.

Thanks are extended to the people of Graaff Reinet, Murraysburg, Middelburg and Beauford West for coming to the exhibition and showing such enthusiasm for local art.
