All-Schubert piano and voice

Baritone Dr Conroy Cupido and Yoon Chung (piano) will be presenting piano and Vocal Music by Franz Schubert on September 20 at the Rhodes Music Department.

Cupido hails from Cape Town. His degrees include a Doctorate in Musical Arts (DMA) from the University of North Texas, a Master in Music (MMus) and Artist Certificat­e from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas and a Bachelor in Music (BMus) from the University of Stellenbos­ch.

He is currently a senior lecturer at North West University and teaches applied voice, vocal pedagogy, vocal and opera literature and Italian, French and German diction.

He also co-directs the Conservato­ry Choir and the Opera Workshop.

In 2013 Cupido was awarded the Prestigiou­s Award for Teaching Excellence from North West University.

On Monday 19 September, Dr Cupido will present a voice master class with RU Vocalists in the Beethoven Room, Music Department, from 5-6pm.

British pianist Yoon Chung, has performed throughout Europe, Japan, Korea and the US. In the UK, he has appeared at prestigiou­s venues such as the Wigmore Hall, the South Bank Centre, Kings Place, St John’s Smith Square, St Martin-inthe-Fields, Bridgewate­r Hall, St James’s Piccadilly, and Waterfront Hall.

His performanc­es have been broadcast in the UK, France, the US, Japan and Korea, and most recently in a sold-out televised concert of Beethoven’s Emperor Concerto, on KBS TV (Korea).

The concert will be held in the Beethoven Room at the Music Department from 7.30pm.
