Team effort in hawk rescue
Rescuing a gymnogene (African harrier hawk) that was stuck in fishing line in a tree at Grey Dam this week was a team effort by a number of Grahamstown residents. Sue Powers said around 8.30 on Tuesday morning, Marinda Dewey saw the young male bird suspended a few metres over Grey Dam. Marinda’s husband, Mike, arrived soon afterwards with two employees and a ladder. Ingrid Schudel, second on the scene, called Basil Mills (right) who together with Peter du Toit (below) entered the water and pulled the branch down towards the water.
