Success for touring Graeme sides

- STAFF REPORTER

Graeme College faced Victoria Park (senior school) and Muir (juniors) on the cricket fields over the past weekend, with some good results and individual scores.

The 1sts travelled to Port Elizabeth, and found a superb pitch prepared. VP won the toss and elected to bat. VP struggled to take advantage of the conditions and lost wickets at regular intervals. They weren’t able to build big enough partnerships, and tight bowling seemed to build pressure on the batmen. Sihle Mginywa (5 for 19), was the pick of the Graeme bowlers along with Mark Amm who went for 12 runs in his 8 overs, also picking up two wickets. VP were restricted to 103 all out, which meant that the Graeme batsmen could bat with a little freedom. In a clinical and mature approach, Chris Gleaves (48 not out) and Nick Zimmerman (48 not out) took Graeme to an impressive 10 wicket victory.

The Graeme U15A side, were just as impressive, making 206 for 8 in their 50 overs. Aaron Richardson scored 53 and Shaun Botha assisted with 33. VP were bowled out for 86, with Lakhanya Sam almost unplayable, taking 3 for 16 in 8 overs; Graeme winning by 120 runs. The Graeme 2nds scored a daunting 288 mainly due to Mijean Annandale scoring 87. In reply, VP could only manage 86, with Anda Solomon claiming 4 for 20. Graeme then winning that fixture by 202 runs.

The U14A game was one sided, after VP were bundled out 37. Jayden Roesdorff doing most of the damage with figures of 6 for 8. Graeme went on to win by 9 wickets.

In the Junior School games against Muir, Graeme also seemed to have the better of their opponents. Muir did manage to with the U13B match, after Graeme had scored 145. Muir past the score four wickets down. Graeme won the U11A match by 79 runs after scoring 129. Muir were bowled out for 50 with Marcus Williams picking up 4 for 10. Oliver Ripley dominated for the Graeme U11B side, scoring 31 after picking up 4 for 10 and restricting Muir to 55. Alizwa Jack also picking up 3 for 12. Graeme won by 9 wickets.

Muir’s tough day continued as the U13A side was bowled out for 64, with Dean van Heerden picking up 5 for 9, including a hat-trick. He was ably supported by Lagon Oerson who finished with 3 for 12. Graeme past the Muir total one wicket down. Lubabalo Tshongweni led his team to the 9 wicket victory with an unbeaten 34.
